Community is everything to us. It is why we manufacture in New Zealand, why we feel so strongly about giving back to our wider whanau (family) and why we are so proud to call New Zealand our home. We have established a long term partnership with Auckland based charity, Sweet Charity, which is an innovative collaboration between two invaluable not-for-profit organisations - the Grief Centre and Supporting Families in Mental Illness. In their unique ways, these organisations are dedicated to helping New Zealanders through times of crisis and to build stronger, more resilient communities. In the last 20 years global clothing purchasing has drastically increased, while the useful lifespan of clothing is decreasing just as fast. We aim to re-educate people on the value of their clothing. Our clothes should make our heart sing, they should be imprinted with a lifetime of treasured experiences. It is at the heart of our business to lead the way towards a fashion industry that is slow and circular. As with anything else, if our clothes break, we should fix them and if they should somehow find themselves no longer needed, they should be welcomed back into a circular industry that rehomes or repurposes.
The language used relating to sustainability is important and it is often misused by businesses (purposefully and accidentally) which creates confusion for everyone. So to ensure we are not adding to the confusion, (and helping to solve the confusion) we have created our Language of Sustainability which provides a definition of the most common terms we use so you know what we mean when we use them.
Working our way through our sustainable ambitions is a huge undertaking and we cannot do it alone. Moving into a more positive future, requires hard work and collaboration. In June 2018, we sought the help of Nick Morrison from Go Well Consulting, a New Zealand Sustainability Consulting agency. Nick provides invaluable knowledge and mentorship and with his guidance we have constructed a tangible and detailed roadmap for how we are going to achieve these goals.
