I started MM almost ten years ago, but despite the time that’s passed there’s still a few things I really believe:
- The best clothes are the ones that make you feel brave and hopeful for better days.
- Vulnerability is a superpower.
- Mother Nature holds the solutions to most things.
- And summer never lets you down.
This collection’s jumping-off point was different to others I’ve designed - instead of starting with a feeling or a person, I started with things that were quite literal. About six months ago I took my son to the aquarium for the first time, and watching Ralph discover jellyfish tentacles, seahorses, and starfish made me feel like I was discovering them for the first time too.
Motherhood and summer have that in common, I think. They both force you to slow down in a way that makes you notice things you’d have otherwise missed. So I set out to try and emulate Mother Nature’s magic... unravelling ruffles that look like seaweed, water colour scallop shells in shades of pink and orange, and imperfect chocolate polka dots like the shells Ralph finds at the beach.
I wanted every piece to feel as expansive as the season they were designed for; unrestrictive and unfussy, but undeniably special. A dress you wouldn’t second-guess eating hot chips in or wearing over a bikini or pregnant belly, but that still made you feel hopeful and beautiful.
Summer always reminds me that a small moment of joy - like watching the sunrise or fish & chips on the beach - can reset you. It’s the season where it feels a little easier to let joy in: To make space for it on the beach towel or at the table. And we’re now officially on the homestretch to its arrival.
